Demand Sand at Boulder Beach — Restore the Only Public Shoreline of Lake Mead

Boulder Beach, the only truly public and accessible beach at Lake Mead, has been left covered in large, painful rocks instead of soft sand. Families, swimmers, and visitors deserve a safe, enjoyable place to connect with the water — not a field of stones. The federal government has the power, equipment, and funding to restore Boulder Beach into a real beach. Yet unless the public demands action, nothing will change.

Boulder Beach belongs to the people — not to bureaucrats who ignore its condition. It’s time to unite our voices and call on the National Park Service and Bureau of Reclamation to bring back the sand and make Boulder Beach a true public treasure once again.

Disclosure: Parks and Recreation — Profiting Less for More

The National Park Service and regional Parks and Recreation departments are failing to provide full value for the fees they collect from Clark County residents and millions of visitors who enter Lake Mead each year. Despite record tourism revenues and the high cost of park entry, Boulder Beach — the only public beach at Lake Mead — remains a field of rocks rather than a safe, welcoming destination for families.

The purpose of government-managed recreation is progress: to create spaces that encourage outdoor life, health, and community connection. Yet progress has stalled while casinos and corporate tourism continue to dominate Las Vegas, shaping the region’s identity around profit instead of public well-being.

It’s time to demand balance. The people of Clark County deserve more than crowded resorts and concrete streets. They deserve a beautiful, accessible shoreline — a real beach where citizens and visitors alike can enjoy Lake Mead. By transforming Boulder Beach with clean tan sand, shaded areas, and safe swimming zones, Parks and Recreation can finally invest in what truly matters: quality of life, not casino control.

Public funds should enhance public spaces — not pad bureaucratic budgets while residents walk on rocks. The people demand progress. Bring sand to Boulder Beach.
